Lewis Banks is a designer and maker of enamel artworks. His work ranges from jewellery to large three-dimensional sculptural pieces. Based on the Firth of Forth in the coastal village of Aberdour, much of Lewis’s work is inspired by nature and the sea.

The pieces are created by multiple sequential firings of transparent and opaque glass enamels on copper resulting in striking “colour textures”.

Lewis says, “I am fascinated by how the organic world can be represented and recreated in these inorganic materials”.

His work is on show in a number of commercial galleries as well as in his own studio, Gallery 8 in Aberdour, and he is happy to accept commissions.

Gallery 8 was opened by Lewis Banks in October 2005 and showcases original work by a changing collection of artists and makers. The work on show is created in a wide range of materials and mediums and is produced by both established and new artists who are mainly based in Scotland.

Most days, Lewis can be found working at the gallery making his own pieces and is happy to talk to visitors about his own work and the work of the other artists on show.

Browsing is encouraged and children and dogs are welcome.

Enamelling workshops can be arranged for those who are interested in “having a go”.
