About Gallery 8

Gallery 8 is both a working studio and an exhibition space. It was established by Lewis Banks in order to provide a more permanent venue in which he can both make and display his own work as well as that of other artists and makers. The atmosphere is informal and visitors are made welcome, browsing is encouraged and Lewis is happy to talk about his work and that of the other artists.

Enamelling workshops and demonstrations
Enamelling involves fusing coloured glass to metal in a series of firings at temperatures in excess of 800°C. Most days Lewis will be working in the Gallery and you may be able to watch the process as it happens.

Opening hours
The Gallery is open between 11am and 5pm Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 12 noon to 5pm Sunday. The Gallery is normally closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
With a little notice, demonstrations or half day workshops can be arranged for those who would like to have a go themselves. A charge is normally made for this but the prices are kept low and most people leave with at least one piece that they have created themselves.
Commissions
Lewis is happy to accept commissions. Past commissions have ranged from small jewellery items through to large three dimensional wall hangings designed for specific locations.

Although there is normally a non-refundable commissioning fee, a fraction of the final price, there is no further obligation for the customer to take the finished work if they are not completely happy with it … to date, this has never happened!
